Russ heads G.F. BUNTING+CO’s Southern California practice, which serves a wide range of clients in the worlds of business, education, government, sports, entertainment, nonprofits and family trusts and estates. He consults regularly with local, regional and statewide government agencies on issues involving legislation, public policy, the electorate, and with colleges and universities on academic affairs, legal action, messaging and working with the media.
Russ has worked with MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL franchises at every level – owners, general managers, front-office personnel, coaches, players, their families and agents – on matters such as player transactions, off-field issues, franchise relocation, and coaching, management and ownership transitions.
Clients also depend on Russ’s expertise in litigation support and crisis management, particularly when it comes to high-profile court cases and stories that attract widespread media attention.
Before joining the firm, Russ served as editor-in-chief of the Los Angeles Times from 2008 to 2011, where he led a rapid expansion of its online news report. During his tenure as editor-in-chief, The Times won three Pulitzer Prizes, including the Gold Medal for Public Service. After 30 years in the newspaper business in Southern California, Russ ran the award-winning newsroom of 89.3 KPCC, expanding its broad-cast, digital, mobile and live-events programming and audiences.
